Position Purpose
The Aviation Screening Officer’s (ASO) role performs duties relevant to the security of persons and property at the airport as defined by the contract with Whyalla City Council in accordance with the appropriate legislation. The Aviation Security division encompasses the Domestic Terminal at Whyalla Airport. Employees are expected to apply the highest levels of professionalism through our ‘Security with Service and Integrity’ model whilst operating within a service orientated work environment.
Our current Rostering comprises of AM /PM Split shifts based on Airline schedules between (5.45am – 9.45am and 2.15pm to 6.30pm) plus Weekend options.

Key Responsibilities

The primary function for an Aviation Screening Officer (ASO) is passenger screening at the airport. Officers are rotated
through each of the positions as detailed below:
• Loader
• X-Ray Operator
• Physical Bag Searcher
• Primary Position (Body scanner/Walk through metal detector)
• Explosive Trace Detector (ETD)
At each point, the ASO operates within a team and is responsible for maintaining and applying the safety standards and processes, whilst always conducting themselves in a professional and courteous manner. Rotation of positions is mandatory for ASO’s to maintain their attention to detail and composure. ASO’s are often faced with challenging interactions with the public and as such must be prepared to engage in conflict resolution. In addition to their primary duties, ASO’s may be directed to secondary duties as outlined later.
Secondary duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Queue co-ordination
• Checked Baggage Screening (CBS) monitoring cargo baggage.
• Access control
• Airport clearance check
Qualification
-
• Fully certified and accredited to perform Aviation Screening duties as per the requirements of an Aviation Screening Officer - · Certificate II in Transport Security Protection (Aviation)
• Hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)

- Previous experience as a security guard is highly desirable but not essential
