Gatehouse Security Officer

POSITION PURPOSE
As a Gatehouse Security Officer, you will be responsible for managing gatehouse operations at our client site within the Melbourne Airport precincts (no ASIC required). This includes ensuring secure access control, surveillance, and prompt incident response across the facility. The Gatehouse Security Officer plays a vital role in maintaining uninterrupted service delivery and upholding operational security standards without delay or compromise.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage vehicle movement, access control, and the issuance of visitor passes to ensure secure and efficient site entry.
- Perform administrative duties including checking emails, completing required reporting, and maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure all individuals issued with a security access card have completed the relevant induction and possess the appropriate approved access level.
- Identify and report any security risks to the client contact and Certis Client Services Manager.
- Monitor WHS compliance, CCTV surveillance, and respond promptly to various site alarms.
- Maintain detailed daily logs including communications diaries, event logs, incident reports, breach records, patrol reports, readings, and alarm checks.
- Provide perimeter security by preventing unauthorized access and identifying vulnerabilities in physical and electronic security systems.
- Respond to alarms triggered by access control systems, fire systems, building management systems, CCTV, and staff-reported issues.
- Conduct surveillance and monitoring of all entry gates, screening areas, site buildings, and grounds using CCTV, access control systems, and visitor management tools.
- Manage traffic control at pedestrian and vehicle gates, intercoms, and parking areas to ensure safe and orderly movement.
- Greet and direct drivers, employees, and contractors entering the site.
- Follow client instructions and foster a collaborative working relationship to support positive outcomes.
- Demonstrate situational awareness and a willingness to assist or intervene when necessary.
- Operate effectively within a team environment.
- Record vehicle movement data and conduct regular audits.
- Verify paperwork and operate efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Perform site patrols and manage traffic flow.
- Operate CCTV and access control systems.
- Respond to emails and phone calls as received.
- Support and promote site safety standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory:
- Minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in a similar gatehouse or security role.
- Valid VIC Security Licence.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Current and applicable Drivers Licence.
- Availability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster.
Desirable:
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
- Strong task prioritisation and self-management skills.
- Advanced data entry and computer literacy skills.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2 years’ demonstrated experience in a similar gatehouse or security role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain strong client relationships in a service-focused setting.
- Advanced computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service.
- High-level report writing and presentation skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
